Public parks are the beauty of any city. They not only keep the city alive but also help people to heal and rejuvenate. The good news is that now Karachi also has one of the most beautiful public parks. Calling it a park wouldn’t justify this place because of its lush green environment, vast land, shady trees and fruit-bearing plants. We would call it a forest. It gives Islamabad and Murree vibes in Karachi. It’s called Kidney Hill Park or Ahmed Ali Park.
Located in the centre of Karachi, this place is the best of its kind. It’s built on 62 acres of land and is one of the biggest public parks in Karachi. The whole day isn’t enough to explore this thick, dense forest. It has trails, abundance of trees, benches, trekking points, walking zones, and much more. For nature lovers, this is a must-visit place in Karachi.
About Kidney Hill Park
Initially, this place was dedicated to a park. But due to encroachment, it wasn’t accessible to the public. In a haste, it became a heap of garbage. But thankfully administrator of Karachi Murtaza Wahab got into action and took responsibility for this place. They turned this garbage point into a beautiful, attractive forest. Now, it’s filled with flora and fauna. The whole park is maintained and looked over by KDA.
At first, 10,000 trees were planted here. And now it has above 1 lac trees. From Mango plants to Chiku, Guava, Watermelon, Banana and other plants, you name it and you will find a variety there. Its beauty attracts other species too which makes the environment beautiful. The chirping of the birds, the windy atmosphere and the rich green view make people stay here for a long.
It’s built at a height of 219 feet. And standing on top of it, you can view the whole city from the mountain.
What’s Inside?
As you enter the forest, you’ll get a trail and as you keep stepping in, you’d see wooden sign boards with quotations and trail names. There are a lot of benches inside to relax under the sun when you feel tired of walking.
On the left and right there are trails, natural mountains, and some beautiful shady trees. Trails are named after famous places in Karachi such as Dhoraji, Punjab, Changa Manga, Kokan and more.
There’s also a small ground dedicated to cricket enthusiasts, and other people seeking to play sports. Now it’s home to all the birds that once stopped coming here because of pollution and garbage.
To keep this place clean, Dustbins are installed at every spot, and more than 47 types of trees are planted in Kidney Hill Park.
The more you walk inside, you can see the view of Karachi from different angles. You can easily spot International Airport, National Refinery, Korangi Expressway, and Shaheed e Millat road from there. As you walk further, you will also see a lake inside with ducks floating into it. And at its start, the most eye-captivating view is the peak of the park. One can’t leave this place without appreciating it. It’s one of the most beautiful places in Karachi to travel.
There’s no entry fee for the park. Its timings are from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. In addition, ample space for parking is also available. You can visit anytime with your friends and family.
Kidney Hill Park isn’t a forest only but it’s also a picnic point and hiking spot for Karachiites. We would urge you to visit to reap all the benefits of this amazing place.
