When looking for ethical comedy YouTubers who are also emerging stars, there are only a few who take the lead. Why Man is one of them. He started his Youtube channel in 2020 with a full red mask and anonymous identity. Although his image seems like a Super Hero but his content is very relevant to the everyday problems of Pakistanis. Be it parents irritating their brown child or brown child making a mess in parent’s life, you will find his content right at the point. After watching his videos, you would stand up clapping for him for targeting your small issue in such a hilarious way. And that’s the best part of him.

Q. A little introduction about your channel and why you choose to start it with a mask?
Assalam o Alaikum! My name is Why Man. I’m a Youtuber. I make funny videos on Youtube. The reason I wear mask is kind of lame for some people but the truth is that I’m inspired by Super Heroes, especially Spiderman. But since I don’t have any superpowers i.e. no web coming out of my hands so I thought why not wear a mask instead. I always like the idea of how superheroes protect their privacy by wearing masks so I thought I should give it a try. While also, I have heard many popular people saying that when you get fame, you like it to some extent then you start getting fed up with it. So, this is my reason to wear a mask.
Q. Is it a one-man channel or do you have a team?
It’s a one-man channel. I’m the only person who plays all the characters in my videos. I write the script myself, I shoot my videos sometimes through the tripod stand or sometimes using my hands and then I also do the editing.
Q. What inspired you to start your Youtube channel?
I was always fond of making films, I like it now as well. I used to write short films and then gather my friends to make them act on my script. Also, I used to shoot videos and edit them. But all those videos were related to Sci-Fi (Science Fiction). Since in Pakistan, people find Sci-Fi boring, I thought I can’t entertain people so in my videos there was never an entertaining element. One day I found a channel “LongBeachGriffy” on Youtube. I watched one of his videos which I really liked. After that, I watched all the other videos on his channel. I was so inspired that his videos clicked me to create comic videos on Youtube. It was all of a sudden. LongBeachGriffy is the inspiration behind my channel.
Q. What kind of response do you receive from people?
Alhamdulillah, I have always received positive responses from people. They always appreciate that I don’t use any abusive language or 18+ content in my videos. They say that your content is so clean that they watch my videos with their families.
Q. Will you ever reveal your face in future?
It’s my dream to make a film one day. Insha Allah when my film will release, on its red carpet event, I will reveal my face. I know it sounds dramatic but this is what my dream is. Before that, I don’t think I will ever reveal my face.
Q. How long does it take to come up with a single video?
It depends on the idea. There are no timings to get the idea. Some ideas click my mind while I’m walking, eating, talking to other people or driving. I write my idea then. The writing process takes a bit of my time as it demands attention to detail. But once the script is completed, I shoot the video the next morning. I think it took me 2 hours to shoot a video and then the editing take 3 hours. By evening, my video is ready to go live.
Q. Who’s your favourite Youtuber?
My favorite Youtubers are Taimoor Salahuddin a.k.a Mooro and Junaid Akram a.k.a Ganjiswag.
Q. What’s the most memorable moment during your Youtube journey so far?
My memorable moment is a comment I received on my short film Same Time which is on my channel. I created that video with complete dedication and my heart. It’s one of the favourite videos I have created so far. Someone commented on that video that it reminds him of the Hollywood movie “No Country for Old Man.” It’s also my favourite movie but my video wasn’t related to that movie by any means. But while writing my short film, maybe that video would have been in my mind. So, the moment that my fan observed my work in-depth, understand it and also got the idea of my inspirations, my directions, and the process of writing the scripts was really fascinating for me.
Q. Any message to the emerging comedy Youtubers in Pakistan?
Yes, I have a very important message for the upcoming Youtubers. I request you all to do comedy without using abusive language and also without hurting anyone. Trust me, You can do great comedy without using foul language and abusing someone.
