I’m thankful to COVID19 because in this period I was able to quit my 9 to 5 and work on my blog.
But soon after I quit my job, I started observing a decline in my productivity. I realized I was doing more in the office than at home.
The reasons were continuous distractions in the form of noise, disturbance from family members and sometimes my mood to stay up in bed for long.
Then I came across this book the 5 AM club and become curious to know how it can change my morning routine?
And after reading this I realized if you wake up early, you can complete your to-do lists, cut the distractions and can achieve more.
If you want to know these life lessons from the 5 AM club, keep reading till the end.
In this book, Robin Sharma wants us to start our day at 5 am to make the most of the time. And to prove his point he has shared success formulas which can help you to make the most of your hours.
1. The 3 Step Success Formula
The 3 step success formula is the key to becoming better in your profession. It’s divided into three steps. The first step is focused on gaining knowledge. Whether you’re a farmer, astronaut, teacher, writer or a banker, you should invest in your learning and do small actions with in-depth knowledge. You’ll notice that the knowledge adds value to your decision-making and will also let you make good career choices.
It’s the process of making your superficial thinking granular i.e. researching the points and making educated decisions. And after these two steps, you’ll observe that your decisions are reaping you great benefits, either in the form of money, credibility or fame. That’s how 3 step-success formula work.
2. 5/3/1 – Creed of the Willpower Warrior
The 5/3/1 success formula defines how you can evolve into a warrior spirit by knowing the 5 scientific truths behind excellent habits, 3 values of heroic habit makers and 1 general theory of self-discipline.
It explains that you can grow your willpower if you practice it with consistency. For this, you need to wake up early, make a routine and follow it explicitly to gain lasting results.
3. The 20.20.20 Formula
The way you start your day shapes the rest of your day. In this 20-20-20 formula, Sharma suggests that you should start your day with 20 mins of intense exercise. It’s because exercising in the morning energizes the rest of the day by releasing the dopamine and making you happier.
After 20 minutes of exercise, you should dedicate the next 20 minutes in planning your day, journaling and working on your quarterly goals.
And the last 20 mins should be spent to inspire yourself by reading books, listening to podcasts or watching videos.
This 20.20.20 formula will set you great energy for the remaining day.
4. The 4 Interior Empires
According to Robin Sharma, a person must understand the 4 interior empires; mindset, heart set, soul set and health set. If your inner is happy, you can focus on making your outside better. For example, you have a dream of making your business successful and for this, you need to live to grow the things yourself. But if you don’t have health, how will you give time to your dreams? How you’ll be able to manage your busy life? That’s why health set is important.
Similarly, the other 3 empires are also important to live long, quality years. If your mind, heart, health and soul aren’t connected then there will be more distractions or it can affect your productivity as well.
5. The 10 Tactics of Lifelong Genius
The above are the formulae for genius, 10 best ways to make your life successful and productive. All these 10 tactics have secrets you’ll unlock when you follow it. So, either you try becoming a 60-minute student for a day or apply the 90/90/1 rule, you’ll see that you’re gradually becoming better in whatever you do daily.
The lesson is to wake up early and utilize your best hours in making the best for you so you can sleep with satisfaction and wake up with passion.
Although it’s not possible to apply all the formulas in your life together, you can pick some of them, try and experiment and stick to the secret formula which suits you the best.
Apart from these lessons, the book uncovers many minor to major lessons which can of great help to you. The book is, however, a long read and can make you skip some pages but I’d suggest you read it once.
The reason why Robin Sharma emphasize on waking up early is that in the morning you can find the solitude, peace and silence to work on your goals. Whereas if you choose to work in the afternoon or midnight, the distractions can create hurdles.
In the end, it’s your life and it depends on how you plan it but if you’re not drawing successful results out of your life, it’s time to fix your routine.
Some More Lessons
- Don’t check your smartphone immediately after waking up. Addiction to distractions is the killer of your creative production.
- Sleep is essential. You should sleep for 6-8 hours a day.
- Don’t surround yourself with negative people. It only wastes your energy.
- Plan your day and at the end of your week track your progress. Point out the mistakes and learn how to improve them.
- Reward yourself even when you achieve a small victory in a day.
- Unplug and recharge your soul by being around nature.
Well, that’s it!
